This Privacy Policy explains how Messenger (the “Service”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use its public communities, private chats, profiles, notifications, and related features. The Service is powered by Action Apps.
1. Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect information such as your display name, email address, password hash, profile image, and account settings. Passwords are stored as one-way hashes rather than readable passwords.
Content and activity
We collect content you submit, including messages, posts, replies, images, links, reactions, likes, reports, group memberships, follow relationships, rule acceptances, edits, and notification activity. Private messages are visible to the participants and authorized administrators as required to operate, secure, or investigate abuse on the Service.
Anonymous posts
When you choose to post anonymously, your name and profile image are hidden from other users. The Service still retains your account identifier internally for moderation, abuse prevention, legal compliance, and enforcement of community rules. Anonymous posting does not mean the post is technically untraceable.
Technical information
We may collect IP address, browser type, device information, timestamps, referring pages, requested pages, session identifiers, security logs, and similar diagnostic information. We use this information to operate the Service, prevent fraud, investigate abuse, and improve reliability.
Link previews
When a post contains a public web link, the Service may request that page to retrieve its title, description, image, and site name. The destination website may receive the Service server’s IP address and technical request information. Link-preview data may be cached.
2. How we use information
We use information to provide accounts and profiles; deliver public and private conversations; display posts, replies, images, and link previews; rank public chats by recent activity; operate follows and notifications; enforce community rules; process abuse reports; block abusive posting; secure the Service; troubleshoot errors; comply with law; and communicate material service or policy changes.
3. Public information
Your display name, profile image, named public posts, named replies, public group memberships, and public discussion participation may be visible to anyone, including visitors who are not signed in. Public pages may be indexed by search engines. Do not post information you do not want made public.
4. Private information and groups
Private conversations and private groups are intended to be visible only to authorized participants. No online system can guarantee absolute confidentiality. Participants may copy, capture, or redistribute content, and information may be accessed when reasonably necessary for security, support, abuse investigations, legal compliance, or protection of users and the Service.
5. Notifications and email
When you follow a thread or user, the Service may create an in-app or email notification after new activity remains unviewed for the configured delay. A notification may include up to the first 250 characters of the relevant message. Do not include sensitive information near the beginning of a post if recipients should not see it in a notification preview.
6. How information is shared
We may share information with hosting, email, storage, security, analytics, and infrastructure providers that process information for the Service. We may also disclose information when required by law, legal process, or a valid governmental request; to investigate fraud, threats, or abuse; to enforce our Terms; to protect rights and safety; or as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, or sale of assets.
7. Data retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the Service, maintain security and moderation records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, meet legal obligations, and preserve backups. Edited or removed content may remain in moderation logs, backups, or legal records. Abuse reports and internal author identifiers for anonymous posts may be retained after public removal.
8. Your choices
You can edit your profile, edit your posts, unfollow threads or users, leave eligible groups, and control whether a post is anonymous where that option is available. You may request access, correction, or deletion of account information through the Service operator. Some information may be retained when required for security, legal compliance, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or enforcement.
9. Cookies and sessions
The Service uses session cookies and similar local technologies to keep you signed in, protect forms, remember settings, and maintain security. Blocking essential cookies may prevent account and messaging features from working.
10. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including password hashing, request validation, access controls, and upload restrictions. However, no transmission or storage system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur.
11. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and users under 13 may not create accounts. Where local law requires a higher minimum age, that higher age applies.
12. United States operation
The Service may be operated and hosted in the United States. By using it from another jurisdiction, you understand that information may be transferred to and processed in the United States.
13. Policy changes
We may update this Privacy Policy as the Service changes. The revised policy will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use after the effective date means the revised policy applies to your subsequent use.
